Every Sunday morning, around 150 of us join together to pray, praise God and listen to a message from the Bible. Our services normally last about 60 minutes. We start with prayer and singing, which is in a relaxed and contemporary style, and share some news about what’s happening around the church. Children and young people stay with us for the first part of the service before going to their own age-specific groups. We then spend about 20 minutes looking at how the Bible connects to our everyday lives during the week. We usually do this systematically, journeying through a Bible book week by week. But sometimes we’ll break off for a series of themed sermons. The service ends with one or two hymns, and we always like to make plenty of time for conversation afterwards – washed down with good tea, coffee and squash.
We do. There’s an entrance ramp at the front of the church, leading up to the main door. We also have a washroom for disabled people and families with young children on the ground floor of Lillington House, the building next to the main church.
We have a welcoming team who will greet you at the door when you arrive. If you have any questions about your visit, they’ll be very happy to help you.
There’s no dress code. Most of our regulars wear casual clothes, though you may see the occasional jacket and smart trousers. Just come as you feel comfortable.
No. Each Sunday we have a slot where someone comes up to pray. It’s a short, contemplative time for us to think about some of the needs in our lives, community and world, and bring them to God. If you feel comfortable doing so, you can say amen at the end.
Once a month, our regular format switches to Messy Church, followed by Second Sunday, a short, dynamic service led by our young people. Messy Church is a special event particularly aimed at families, though anybody is very welcome to join us. It starts at 9am with a continental breakfast (croissants, fruit, hot drinks…) in the main church building. We then go downstairs to do crafts together or to play games – you’ll find everything from Lego to table tennis. At 10.15am, we head back upstairs for a service that’s suitable for all ages. There’s no need to book ahead for Messy Church. You can just turn up.
Second Sunday (meaning the second Sunday of the month, as you might have guessed!) follows Messy Church – some families like to join us for both parts. This service is relaxed and informal, and it lasts about 45 minutes. It’s particularly designed for people who aren’t so familiar with coming to church. We explore some of the basics of Christianity, often with a real-life story from someone whose faith has made a big difference to them. Second Sunday finishes just after 11am.
